We have just had a new server and it has 3 36.2gb hard drives installed. We are using raid 5 but would like to have a hot spare added at a later time. Is this possible without reconfiguring the whole of the raid array??

Yes, you can add an on-line spare to an existing array.

Use the Array Configuration Utility, there is an option there for adding an on-line spare.
