has anyone got a Hp netserver, they've ever had to reinstall?
it was our exchange server that NT broke on. it had mirrored scsi drives.
we broke the mirror, and after a lot of messing i managed to get it to boot from the cdrom drive. I installed nt4. but after the initial install where you take out the cd, well it doesnt boot properly now.
after the post banner it just hangs with a flashing cursor. And no amount of fiddling can i get it to boot off the cdrom or floppy drive.
we think that fdisk /mbr might fix the nt installation but since we cant seem to boot from floppy or cdrom we're a bit stuffed.
in the unit there are 2 onboard scsi ports (sym3C896). both our hdd drives are on scsi A the cdrom is on one of the ide channels.
we've tried having the bios set to
floppy
cdrom
hdd
scsi id0
scsi id1
bootable cards
well it didnt work, i think it works if i disconnect the hard drives.
I dont understand how scsi can "break" the boot order set in the bios.
Do you think we've messed up the scsi-bios settings? ===============
