HP DV2000 laptop brought in with a screen problem. This problem is just a little different than usual. Usually the screen is either black (nothing at all) or dim can see desktop, very dim though. This laptop displays about 1/2 the normal brightness on the screen but you cannot see the desktop.

This laptop works just fine on an external monitor so that leaves only a few culprits, lcd screen, inverter or backlight. Would like your input before I move ahead.

The inverter would be the cheapest shot.

sounds like either the back light or inverter, unless you have replaced a back light before, I would replace the whole LCD panel, it's easier unless you have replaced back lights before.

True backlights are a pain (done plenty), so I will try an inverter 1st, hopefully that will solve the problem, if not, new screen time.

thanks

Just to follow up and describe the solution. After trying my best to resolve the problem I ordered a new inverter board for this lap top. I installed the inverter and still same problem so I called the owner & said next would be a new screen, sooooo noooow, they tell me that a new screen had been installed only two weeks ago. I took the display apart & sure enough, the connection to the screen was not complete, so I connected properly & secured it with clear tape & all is now good.

go figure, I had asked initially what had happened to bring on this problem and no one knew!
