Hi,

I have recently attempted to rebuild a HP Vectra VL 6/266 Series 7 DT PC. Naively believeing that I could simply fdisk it and reinstall w/out the drivers, I am left quite screwed. And despite my lengthy attempts to locate these drivers on the net, I have found nothing.

It has a PCI Intel Pro100 card in it but does not seem to take it. Since it worked before, I'm assuming that it needs some type of PCI controller software? Also, the only version of USB drviers for it that I could locate were in Japanese... hehe, looks pretty weird, but works. thanks for any help!!

Wow that was quick... Thanks for the advice, but I wasn't able to locate it there either :-/ When windows does acutally see the nic it's calling it a PCI Ethernet Controller. That doesn't sound like what they normally call a NIC, but maybe it is. Or maybe there is some PCI controller.. who knows

What OS did you load? I know W2K has alot of built in drivers that could help that 98 or 95 do not have.

Good call... I have to put Windows 95 on it, but I just realized it wasn't the one with USB support. Now that I have a Win95 w/USB, I'll see if that helps a little.....

no luck after all. any more suggestions?

Have you tried finding a generic driver for that chipset. It may be another shot in the dark, but I had this problem with a modem that wasn't compatible with W2K and had to download a generic Lucent driver since it was Lucent chipset and it worked fine afterwards.

Does this series of Vectra have embeded sound, video, and NIC? I had the exact same problem as you where I work. I lucked out and found a disk that contained all drivers I needed. Of course I didn't find it right away. Anyway here's a suggestion, go to HP's webpage... you can do a search for drivers by each Vectra series. As long as the system still has the original components this should work.
Go here --->
and in the drop down pick your series (HP Vectra VL 6/xxx Series 7). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions guys... I'm outta here till at least next Wednesday, but I'll be sure to try the generic driver and that site. Yes the Sound and Video is on board. However, the NIC is a Intel Pro/100 on a PCI slot... thinking about trying a 3com maybe... thanks again!
