HOWTO: Compile a patched driver module in Fedora Core 3?

I'm working on setting up a MythTV server. Apparantly the PVR card I've bought (PVR-350) is new enough to require a patch be applied to tuner.c/tuner.h in the kernel(2.6.9-1.681_FC3). I've successfully applied the diff patch to the tuner.c and tuner.h files. I'm stuck now though on how to compile and install this patched file. I don't think I have to recompile the entire kernel do I?

What are the steps necessary to accomplish this?

It depends on what tuner.c and tuner.h are part of. If they're part of a module, you can recompile the module. It basically requires recompiling the kernel, but you don't have to actually install the new kernel, just the new module. I haven't compiled a kernel since RH9, but it used to be a pain in the ass to get the symbol signatures correct, hopefully they've made that easier.

Another avenue might be to check atrpms.net and see if Axel has a kernel build with the patch.
