Hi all !

my database crashed today. It had a specific MDW file. The mdw file still works but i'm totally blank on how to see to it the database only uses THAT specific MDW file.
Other users that use the normal system.mdw shouldnt be able to open it.
I recall something like securing the database while creating a new secured database... but HOW????
I've been reading posts and the manual (bad written book!) and i'm getting frustrated... plzzzzzzzzzzzz help!

Many thanks!!!

Very briefly:

1. Connect to your specific MDW file.
2. Open the database.
3. Open the security dialog box. Create new user accounts with relevant permissions. Make sure one of these is a new Developer user with full permissions to everything.
4. Put a password on the Admin user.
5. Close and re-open MS Access. Re-open the database. When prompted to enter user name and password log in as the developer.
6. Re-open the security dialog box and remove all permissions from the Admin user.

Hi Ed,

thanks for your reply. What i meant; i already have a mdw file filled with lots of permissions. My mdB file got corrupted so i have to build it again. The mdW file however, survived.
I'm trying to prevent that i have to enter lots of permissions again....
So how my question is; is it possible and how?

tnx Flippertje!

I don't believe so.

If I remember correctly user account details (name, password, ID numbers) are stored in the MDW file. Permissions to objects are stored in the MDB.

Therefore if the MDB file has been recreated you will need to reset all your permissions.
