Hi there another problem im after ideas for.

I have a class room where the pc's are locked in cupboards under students desks.

yes they can shut them down ok from the keyboard. but how to turn them on.

Current ideas
Wake on LAN - but this would only wake from sleep
Relay's - we could replace the power buttons on the pc's with relays on a ring around the room where the teacher can then turn them all on.

any other suggestions would be apreciated

thanks in advance

Physically extend the power switch.
Students can control the power switch.

Use a power switch with an integrated keylock on the students desks.
The teacher has the key (to the problem).
A quick google came up with:

Or use Citrix, VMWare or VirtualPC. The teacher controls the main server and can switch on and off the virtual PC's.
The student PC's can run from a preconfigured Bootable CD (Knoppix?), and connect to the main server and do their thing. The teacher can even look at the student (virtual) screens without leaving his chair.
The student can physically switch their PC on and off because there is no need for a fully featured OS.
