How to time the display of an image?

I have 3 stacked floating boxes. On mouse click I want to hide the first image, have the 2nd image show for a specified amount of time and the 3rd image show for another specified amount of time before linking to another page. Is there any way to do this? I'm not looking for a tutorial, just a point in the right direction.
