Hi,
I really need to set up a decent way to test the microsoft updates before I send them out. I have one domain with a group policy at the domain level that points a auto updates to the SUS server. I have 2 testing workstations to use. One has XP and the other 2000. What's the best way to do this.

1. Use the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) to query the test system for missing updates/patches. This utility is available for download at microsoft.com.

2. Force a client to query and download updates from the SUS server by using the nwsusutil.exe tool.

Code:
c:\nwsusutil.exe [URL unfurl="true"]http://sus_server[/URL]

3. Check the SUS server's web logs to see if your test systems connected and downloaded the updates. Run MBSA on the system to see if the update/patch applied.

You can search the nwsusutil utility online by using Yahoo or Google. SUS takes approximately 10 minutes to update a client - the server uses BITS. Good luck.
