Hi,

Is it possible to start Word from the cmd line and give it the paths of two docs you want it to compare?

Maybe you could write an autoexec macro which would compare the docs at startup, but how can VB get hold of the two paths passed to Word?

Any advice much appreciated.

Why is it important that it be done on startup? Why do you need to start Word from a cmd line?

You do not need to use autoexec. You can open Word firing any macro. That macro can have the two paths.

Thanks Gerry.

I'm actually starting word from another piece of SW (not my own) so I need to know the cmd line options.

Using the /mMacroName option I can't see how to pass in the two paths as parameters. Do you know?

Thanks again!

You can't pass parameters in through the commandline. HOWEVER, you could have the macro ASK for the paths of the two files to compare. Have that asking part of the macro. Run the macro from the command line.

But no, you can pass them with the command line.

So the solution is not a real solution. You could just as easily start Word and run the macro to compare.

Presumably the macro (/mMacroName)could pick up the path names by opening a text file containing them?
