I've got two computers, one running XP pro and the other running Win ME. Both are connected via ethernet to DSL d-link 504 router/modem and they are working OK. But I couldn't make them share each other's file and printer.
My question is: how to setup a LAN using D-link 504 between two PCs to share files/printers?

Any response will be much appreciated.

Cheers

They probably are already ready. First go to command and try and ping the opposite pc's IP address. If you reply, try the hostname. The problem is most likely that your router is pointed to the ISP DNS, so you cannot see each other in Network Places/Neighborhood since there is no local name resolution.
Try this, navigate to C:\%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc open the hosts file with Notepad. Enter the hostname and IP address of the opposite PC underneath the 127.0.0.1 localhost entry. Save the changes, and see if you can access each other now.
