As a genuine Mac user I have to configure a dual boot on Windows PC's.
How's this been done. On the PC's we have Windows 2000 Pro installed.
The second OS must be XP.
All I know is All I've learned, the rest I will find out about...
Setting up a dual boot system is quite easy. I presume that you are comfortable in installing a PC operating system, otherwise you wouldn't have been given the job.
The secret is to partition the disk so that there are three partitions, one for each OS (can be NTFS) and another FAT32 partition for data sharing if this won't be held on a network. This is necessary because the internal Security ID's (SIDs) will be different in the different OSes and cause havoc with local security rights.
Start with the older system and get it running. In this case it is 2000 Pro. Take a copy of C:\BOOT.INI just in case before installing XP (this controls the boot loader menu), and will let you see where it gets the systems from.
Then, install XP choosing a custom install, giving it the opportunity to install itself into a blank partition. This should add itself to the Boot menu, and as of next reboot, you would have the chance to load the OS of your choice.
