Hey all:

I have a SBS 2000 environment at work and I would like to set up my domain controller to be able to retreive time from an external time source so that it will always be acurate. Can someone please step me throught the process and possibly provide a time server as well

Many thanks,

jocasio

Hi,

These MS KB Articles will help you.
KB262680
KB243574
KB216734
KB224799

Good luck!

Give me a star, if advice is useful!

GENEnG,

It's poor form to ask for a star. Please resist the temptation.

Thanks.

GENEnG:

Thanks for the reply. How can I tell if it is updating from an external time server once I have done this? I want to make sure my server is being updated....

Thanks

NET TIME /SETSNTP:<external time server>

Your workstations should automatically set their time from your Domain Controller. Since you are running SBS, it can be your only domain controller so there's no need to point anything at it.

So much easier to type that then to type all those KB articles, hey?

Unless of course you are talking about running a Cesium atomic clock, then I would guess you have to talk to someone about forking out a couple of million bucks. :)

Albion:

Thanks for the reply. I have my time server pointing to an external source. I was wondering if there was a way to ensure it was automatically being updated. The Net time command will set up an external source, correct? but will not confirm an external source?

Thanks again for your replies!!!

From the command prompt:

net time /querysntp

All Thanks do much for your responses.

I have set up my time server (hopefully). and have reviewed the resulting querysntp (Thanks lander215)

Again Thanks so much

All:

I gave each of you a star for assisting in this:

GENEnG for pointing me to valuable info on setting up the time server

Albion for giving me the answer directly
and lander215 for showing me how to verify my settings. I have found each of your posts helpful. Thanks again for supporting my question.
