I am looking for the preference link so I can set the default compatibility of Acrobat 7 professional with previous Acrobat versions. I want to set them so all the created pdf files are compatible with Acrobat 5.0

For example, I used acrobat 7 to scan a document and save it as a pdf file. I want the DEFAULT to save it as compatible with acrobat 5.0. How can I do that so I don't have to do a REDUCE FILE SIZE from the file menu or PDF Optimizer from the tools menu.

Your help will be appreciated.

Go to Advanced menu/Acrobat Distiller. After Distiller launches go to Settings menu and either Edtit or Add Settings. Set it up, name, and save.

In the Distiller Window, scroll through the Default Settings and pick your new setting.

That's from Acrobat pro 6 - hopefully they haven't changed it.

You might want to just go to Edit Settings and see it Compatabilty with 5 isn't already there. You could use that setting if you wish.
