I'd appreciate the help with this feature: I need to send out something like "CUST SERVICES" out to our PRI-type DID number, the PBX is Avaya CM4.X. "public-unknown-numbering" command only allows us to send out a valid DID phone number not text. Again, thank you in advance!

i don't know of any way your avaya switch can accomplish that, but your carrier can send that out for you.

You response at least confirmed what I told my carrier based on what I know about our PBX's capabilities.
I thought that I could send out the name of the trunk group (like "CUST DEPT") with "send name" set to yes. What does this do exactly when set to "y"?

my understanding of it has always been that it means you are sending the name out, but if the carrier isn't passing it along for you it does no good. i could be wrong. below is from the screen reference guide, which you can get here:
Send Name
Specifies whether the calling/connected/called/busy party’s administered name, or the name on
a redirected call, is sent to the network on outgoing/incoming calls. Valid entries are y, n, or r
(restricted). The value r indicates that the calling/connected name will be sent by
Communication Manager, but will be marked “presentation restricted.” This value is valid only if
the Supplementary Service Protocol field is a (national supplementary service), b (for called/
busy only) or d for the QSIG Global Networking Supplementary Service Protocol. When the
Supplementary Service Protocol field is e (DCS with Rerouting), only values of y and n are
permitted. For redirected calls, the value y indicates that the name is displayed, while for n and
r, the redirected caller name is not displayed.
When the Send Name field in n, an incoming name is not tandemed out again if the
Supplementary Service Protocol field is any value other than b (QSIG). Similarly, when Send
Name is r (restricted), an incoming name is marked restricted when it is tandemed out again.
However, if the Supplementary Service Protocol field is b (QSIG), then an incoming name is
passed on unchanged and the Send Name field is ignored.

Prior to CM 5.2.1, when the PBX has been set up to send out calling name and number, and set up this way with the service provider, it would send the station name of the user, and the associated number from the public-unknown numbering table. Depending on your provider, you may need to enable SA7161.
Beginning with CM 5.2.1, you can turn on Special Application 9086-Mask CLI on PSTN calls. With this you can modify a new 'name' and 'number' field on the trunk group form that will appear on outbound calls from that trunk group. You can also just enter a name, leave the number field blank and still utilize the public-unknown-numbering table for the outbound number display in conjunction with the new trunk group name field.
