How to sell your Software !
Continuing in my vein of fiendishly hard*/terminally boring*/how long is a piece of string* questions (*reference my 3 unanswered questions to date), here is another-
e-commerce scale up for Access Applications – how ?
& I don’t mean nuts & bolts programming – done all that
As an Access developer who now has a run-time system ready for the market place, I would like to explore the options:
- Setting up your own e-commerce web site
Benefits - retention of control over the whole operation. No middlemen creaming off profits. Complete freedom over web site design. Freedom to set your own prices.
Constraints - Web site build and maintenance falls to the developer. Have to manage e-commerce financial transactions (credit card). All risk carried by you, the developer.
- Partnership with a small e-commerce business
Benefits - Site build can be done by partners. E-commerce transaction machinery already available. Shared financial risk if sales are poor or zero.
Constraints - Less freedom to control the project. Have to manage e-commerce financial transactions (credit card). Profits are diluted. Conflicts might arise over pricing.
- Sale through a big name distributor (e.g Yahoo.com)
Benefits - High profile well respected internet shop window. Professional & secure financial payment processing. E-commerce transactions handled for you.
Constraints – Loss of control over the project. Profits could be highly diluted. Pressure to withdraw if poor sales. Difficult to get foot in door.
Any experience ? Like to share it ?
jobo123 - Specialists are people who know more and more and more, about less and less and less, until they know absolutely everything about bugger all.
