Hi there. Can anyone explain to me how to save a Word document as a WordPerfect document. When I click on Save as while in the file, WordPerfect is not one of the softwares listed. I installed the WordPerfect text converters and still it's not listed. Thanks very much.

I believe those text converters are so that you could OPEN a WordPerfect file in Word, not so that you could save as in that other format. You might try saving the Word doc as a RTF (rich text format), then opening it in WordPerfect, then saving it in that application.

We do have one user here who for some reason when she choses Save as in Word has the option to save as WordPerfect. So it is possible somehow, I just don't know what setting it is or what else needs to be installed.

That is correct. I have options to SaveAs WordPerfect 5.0, WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS, and WordPerfect 5.x for Windows.

It is helpful, when you post, to state application versions. Is this from Word 97 to WP 11? I don't think this is possible. Word 2000 to WP 5.x for Windows?

There may not be a supported converter for the version you have.

There may be other files to look for, but see if you have something like:

WPFT532.CNV
WPFT632.CNV
and they should be in some folder like:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv

Good luck.

We are using Word 2003 and WordPerfect 12 and those files are listed where they are supposed to be but it still is not an option to save as wordperfect (except for that one user who does have it as an option). Her option is to save as WordPerfect 5 which is fine. I realize to save as WordPerfect 12 is probably not high on Microsoft's priority list of things to do. But how do the rest of us get the option to at least save as WP5 or 6?

FROM WORD HELP:

Install a converter that's supplied with Word
When you open a file from another word processor or other program in Microsoft Word, Word will automatically use a converter, if necessary, to open the file. If Word cannot open the file, you may need to install the appropriate converter.

Verify that the converter is not already installed.

How?

To see a list of file formats in which Word can open documents, click Open on the File menu and look at the available choices in the Files of type box.

To see a list of file formats in which Word can save documents, click Save As on the File menu and look at the available choices in the Save as type box.

Note The formats listed in the Files of type and Save as type lists are either directly supported by Word, or a converter for the format is installed.

Tip

If you don't see file extensions in the Files of type and Save as type lists, go to Microsoft Windows Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and on the View tab, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
Run the Microsoft Office Setup program.

How?

Quit all programs.
Do one of the following:
If you run Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Microsoft Windows Control Panel.
If you run Microsoft Windows XP, click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
In the Currently installed programs box, click Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office Word 2003, depending on whether you installed Word as part of Office or as an individual program, and then click Change.
On the Maintenance Mode Options screen, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
If you installed Word as part of Office, select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box, and then click Next.
On the Advanced Customization screen, click the expand indicator (+) next to Office Shared Features.
Click the expand indicator (+) next to Converters and Filters and then click the expand indicator (+) next to Text Converters.
Click the arrow next to your selection, and then click Run from My Computer.
