How to repair Twain

I had a Windows 2000 Laptop that was able to see and load drivers for the any scanner I wanted to use via USB. The only problem was that it would not recognize the scanner in the Microsoft Imaging under devices, saying no scanners installed. Scanners and Camera's said that it was there and tested it ok.

I upgraded to XP hoping this might fix the problem, and it has not. I could use some help if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.
