How to receive many charactors through serial port from an external de

I am communicating with a camera through the serial bus using MScomm control. I can receive a small number of charactors no problem but when I want to receive more than 4095 charactors, all I get is blank charactors even though I know my camera is sending more than this number.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how can I fix it so I can receive as many as I want?

Serial ports are slow, can you use a network port on
both devices. The keyword is WINSOCK.
