chkd FAQ. relatively new to systems. loc has 4 lines now. adding 5th bus line. cross connected to telco, and to bix. have dialtone on bix but can't get system to recognize line when programming on set in port/dn. tried 2 different bix connections (203 and 204). 205,206,207,208 used. thanks for any help you can provide.

go into programming and assign line to DN. make it ring only, appear & ring, or appear only.

first thing do you have a second line card in the ksu?
second check to make sure it is punched down an the correct pair (34/9 red /brown port 231)

line 31 on new s/w and line 25 on older s/w

meant to say 225, 226, 227, 228 are currently used. was trying to connect to 203 or 204. listed in port/dn status as line 3 and 4, but when i try to activate them comes back as not in service. don't know why the previous tech skipped over 201 through 204 (unless bad card??). site used to have more lines, some disconnected. i think the amphenol is punched down correctly. thanks.

Is there a way to test the external line ports on the CICS or MICS systems in programming to see if they are bad?

follow jimmer's advice. How many line cards are in the KSU?

They'll either say CI, or LS at the top of the card. On a CICS, the left card is lines 1-4, and if equipped, the second card is 025-028. If you don't have a second card, you'll have to install one before you can add a fifth line.

Also, what sw are you running?

thanks, rik. will be back on site wednesday and will verify for sure and let you know.

well, learned something. reason for lines in use being 25 through 28 was due to T1 card (unused) in first slot for lines 1 through 4. found no dialtone on line 28 so put new line on it and programmed. thanks to all for input.

yep, support dude, you're right. that shows the power of my experience so far. we've been assigned support of all the equipment at branches without any training. so there's the choice of a job without training, or no job. you probably see where i'm going with this. afraid with the economy there will be more of this happening. but slowly i'm getting experience the hard way and haven't killed a system yet. thanks for your response.

thanks. it's great to have this forum to assist. i've already learned a few things that i couldn't find in the norstar limited manuals i have. experience over time is the key i suppose (since training is nil). hope i can add some value as well over time.
