I don't know exactly when this started, but every time I close IE window these days, there are always multiple popup windows(one regular is an ad about a hidden camera) behind it. At first I thought that they come up if I visit certain sites, but no matter where I go, they pop up. So I wonder if IE is responsible for that. Is it possible Microsoft changed IE maybe cecause they are tired of giving it free? Does anybody know how to avoid such popup ads?

Download a Pop up killer application. You can find them in many places now. Try download.com, tucows.com, or any other popular site, and you are bound to find several of them. I use a freeware one called "Popup Killer". I don't think that you can get this particular one any longer, but if you see it, grab it--it works great.

Pop up killers are great. Just make sure you turn on the option to grunt or whatever when one is blocked. Many sites display useful or needed information in the pop up windows. Once you get it set up for your normal sites though, it saves a lot of time. Matt

These new "pop-ups" are called "pop-unders" and are the latest irritating commercials on the web. When you close your browser there it is. I never read them, I just close them. They are as bad as spyware as far as I'm concerned. They are like getting a telemarketing call at dinnertime--very annoying. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

Take a look at
I really like the way this program (freeware) handles deciding which window it should close based on its content rather than the window size.

It is not perfect (the author warns you that you are using it "as-is") and I did have a problem with it closing the actual browser window after doing a change in IE versions but uninstalling and reinstalling fixed that problem. It is version 0.9b so that should tell you how new it is but I really like this one the best so far. joegz

I use this Free browser , which has a built in pop up stopper . ( don't add , About Blank , to the existing filter list )
Uses very little resources ( No Add's ) & is as good as any other browser .
Intergrates quitely into your system , does not take over . You can still run your normal browser , if you wish .
Uses the IE engine , but is very fast & stable .
