How can you network two computers over the internet?
Both systems are using Windows ME. I tried some differenet things but I dont know too much about networking so any insight will be appreciated or if possible send me a good link with some information on how to do it. Thanks in Advance.

Generally this is not a good idea unless you are running a VPN (virtual private network). I am not too familiar with VPNs but there is a wealth of information on the internet about them. I believe that they require some sort of speacialized hardware to be able to do it properly.

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

thus far VPN has been hardware oriented, they're has been some folks working on software only VPN, so far nothing really blown out of the water, but its an interesting goal.
Karl
kb244@kb244.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
May be a silly question....I haven't played with Windows ME yet, but does it even support networking activities, outside of DUN? I was under the impression it was pretty bare bones with regard to networking capability.
Tom Whitehead
twhitehead@commeq.com

From what I have heard (I used WinME, didnt like it too much, as it crashes a little more, and benchmarks show it has no increased performance from Win98 at all) is that WinME contains ONLY microsoft networking protocals, microsoft or some other company has a Softwaere VPN , but it's pretty much crappy. From what I also heard few months back M$ was planning on having Winme just do DUN, and log onto a NT Domain only. We'll have to see what final modifications they make(btw I was using WinME Final)
Karl
kb244@kb244.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
Typical MS behavior....Thanks for the insight Karl...
Tom Whitehead
twhitehead@commeq.com
