Hi all,

I have Director 4.2 installed on a new server, and want to copy my groups, etc. from the old 4.1 server to the new one. Would performing a twgsave on the old one then running twgrestore on the new server using the saved output accomplish this? Or do I have to export the groups, events, and manually change the other stuff? Thanks!

Anthony

You can do a twgsave on the old server and then a twgrestore on the new server. I did exactly the same thing you are doing. After you are done, on the new server, run twgipccf to change the name in the "System Name" field to that of the new server, if the new server has a different name. You should also do a twgrestore with the -t function, which does not restore the name of the old server. Even though you use the -t, you will still have to run twgipccf because the restore overwrites the file "twgmach.id", which holds the system name.

That seemed to take care of the system name, but I get an error relating to the database as follows:

TWG Server
Application Error
Error Code: 11
Error Message: database init error

The 4.1 server uses a jetdatabase, and I want to use SQL for the 4.2 database. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

First, I don't recommend the method JSetaro posed. There's a significant difference in the way v4.1 & v4.2 work and the differences may break you. IBM documents the upgrade path in the README file and on their website. Within IBM Director, there is a utility to configure the database (cfgdb.exe, I think). There is also some good documentation for migrating your database in the Systems Management Guide.
