Hi,

It seems if I change a user's group(s) membership in Linux, I have to reboot the server before the changes take effect. Is their any way to get around this? I can delete the user, then add them again, but that seems drastic...

Thanks!

Your user has to logout and then log back in if you are already logged in when making the changes.

Then it should work right away. What distro are you using and how are you testing this?

We're using SuSE PRO 8.1, everything as shipped. I first noticed this when my initial group needed to be changed from root to users. When I did this, logged out and back in, the files I edited were still stamped scottm:root. After I rebooted, they were stamped as needed.

We're using Samba, if it makes a difference...

Thanks Daniel!

That is really weird. I don't know how SuSE works as I have never used it, but I tested this in RedHat 8.0 and it worked fine.
