how do u kill a process who's parent pid is 1 ... pid 1 being /etc/init - ???.. problem is that this process is dead.. does not respond to ptree or truss or anything.. kill -9 or force does not work..

forgot to add that i dont want to reboot.. thx

have you tried preap? (optional -F to force)
see man preap
preap -F pid

preap is only for solaris 10 isnt it ?

So what Solaris is it?

All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true

sorry about that.. solaris 8

If not causing any harm, probably best to forget about this process. I thought of pkill but I don't think that'll work either. This pid is owned by root I assume?

yes the process is owned by root
