I have an NT4 member server that I just renamed, causing it to lose it's domain membership. I tried to remove and rejoin it to the domain, but that doesn't seem to work. It gives the following error: "The domain controller for this domain cannot be located". I tried creating the following lmhosts entry

10.133.108.10 ctusdc3 #PRE #DOM:PKNUS

Where 10.133.108.10 is the IP address of a Windows 2003 DC on the same subnet, name ctusdc3 and the netbios name for the domain is PKNUS.

I am trying to complete the migration of data off of this old server, but since it is not in the domain it will not show the NTFS permissions to move the files. How can I get it back in the domain?

can you map a drive from the NT server to a win2x server with valid credentials? I know this is just a 'band aid', but if your migration is almost complete, it may be good enough and easier than troubleshooting your issue.
