I have windows XP home edition which does not have any IIS or PWS facility neither does it allow me to load one.

I heard XP pro also ditches programmers. How do I install windows 2000 on Windows XP it shows error saying you have latest version and can not run setup for windows 2000.

I CAN NOT FORMAT MY HARD DISK WHICH CONTAINS IMPORTNAT DATA and PROGRAM FILES and I can not back and reload.

Is there any registry setting thru which I can Install 2000 adv server on windows XP machine?

'I heard XP pro also ditches programmers' - what does this mean? XP Pro looks to be fine to me.
If you want win2k on machine reasonably, you will need to back up you're important data, reformat & install clean. By booting from win2k install CD instead of starting from within XP, you will probably be able to install it 'alongside' XP (in \winnt as XP has \windows) without formatting - but its not recommended and can lead to problems.

Hard drives are relatively inexpensive... I recommend installing another one and not dual-booting...

Of course, some folks are quite successful at managing multiple oses on the same drive... I think it's an invitation to a necktie party if you try it on a production machine...

Just my experience, YMMV... ;-) JTB

Forget XP pro ...

On XP home edition I have certain stuff installed like .NET and Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I don't have an access to those Installable CDs again.

Now to use .NET aspx I need to have IIS5.0 and above to be installed which XP home Edition doesn't allow.

2000 server is great option which I personally used hence I need somebody to help me with INSTALLING 2000 over XP.

may be some registry changes or setting up in certain files.

Please help me

I think you are S.O.L on installing 2K Server over XP, as I know of no registry setting to allow you to do this, nor have I heard of any. Even if there is a way, I'm sure you would be asking for a whole mess of problems. What you may want to do is check your System Tools, which I believe is in the Start/Programs/Accessories, to see if you have a Backup feature installed (Haven't used this feature on XP, so I'm not sure if this is the correct directory). Backup your system files and folders through a burner or zip disk, then format your hard drive and install Windows 2K.

Ok does this BACK UP my PROGRAMS as is ..I mean I don't have to install the softwares again? I do not have INSTALLABLE files of all those softwares.

anyway Whats DUAL boot can I load 2 o.s. on single drive which is not partitioned? I guess here also when XP is present it won't allow me to load windows 2000.

whats S.O.L.?
