I have very lengthy document in Encoded Text format, with New Courier font. A symbol (small box-like) occurs throughout the document. It signifies quotation marks. When saved as a Word document the symbol remains. I want to change this symbol into New Courier quote marks. Since it occurs several thousand times in the document I do not wish to do it manually. I want to make the exchange automaticaly using Word's Find and Replace Function. However I find I cannot get the symbol into the Find box. I cannot copy from the text and then paste it into the box? Also the Insert Symbol function (either by clicking on Insert or using a Key code) will not put the symbol into the Find box. Help needed here.

If you've copied the text then control-v should paste it into the find box. In Word 2003 if the text is already highlighted and you open the find/replace window the selected text already appears in the find box.

Does that not work for you?

Hi EamonX,

I have overcome this problem in the past by doing the find & replace operation in notepad.exe believe it or not. It might be worth giving it a shot anyway.

Regards,

Peter

Yes, you have the solution. However I found that Wordpad rather than Notepad was needed. It is possible in both to paste and insert a symbol into the Find dialog box. However only Wordpad has the Find and Replace option and I needed this to replace the symbol with a blank (remove it from the text). Thanks a million.
