I have an internal web site that is being constucted. I am having a little problem creating a links to sites on the internet. It seems to only specify links to my local computer. I try putting it in the url box. But it maps the link to C:\site_directory\site\
I know it's probably something easy but you must understand I am very new at this.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

You probably have to define the site you are working on in DW.

Site > New Site...

There you set your local root directory, etc... Or else, DW just maps everything in relation to where the files are on your computer.
