How to hard reset a Cisco 2900 LRE XL to factory defaults

Hi. Have looked everywhere for some hole or button to push/insert pin in order to reset this switch to factory defaults. The enable password on telnet got changed and now access is denied. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok, the steps described there did seem to work to reset the password, however, after step 8 (boot command), the system continues to scroll through fault checks(ports up/down status, etc.) of some type and continuously displays these messages on the hyperterminal screen, thereby not allowing me to continue with the remaining steps(not allowed to finish typing a command before it scrolls another msg.). Have tried the whole thing twice from the beginning and same outcome. People seem to have internet connectivity through the switch though, so am not certain on how to proceed to set another password. Have tried connecting via telnet and msg pops up saying "password required, but none set" then the session crashes. Any advice is much appreciated.

Have you tried a power reset of the switch - hopefully that will rectify this. You should then be able to proceed from step 9.

To overcome the issue with "password required, but none set", you will need to access the switch via the console as before and either enable/disable password authentication for telnet access. To set a password for telnet:

line vty 0 4
login
password <passwd>

To remove password for telnet:


line vty 0 4
no login
