I'm not sure why you would want or need to force people out of their e-mail. If you need to perform maintenance of some kind that requires stopping the Information Store, you can do this without having all the users close their mailbox. If they try to open a message while the IS is down, they'll simply get a message that the server could not be contacted. If they try to send a message, it will stay in their Outbox until the server is back on line.
If this is the situation, please respond and explain, as manual maintenance of the IS with either the Eseutil or Isinteg utilities can have undesireable results if you are not intimately familiar with the tools. In fact, use of these tools is not recommended for routine maintenance. Their use for troubleshooting and solving problems is only recommended under the guidance of a very knowledgeable Exchange expert.
I was changing the primary account of a mailbox and the user apparently exited the email but the logon was still active. We had to wait till the logon timed out before the user could attempt to access the mailbox with the change I had made.
