I can open the document and read it, but it does not let me make changes. When I go to Tools/Unprotect, it asks for the password. Is there any way to recover the password without buying any additional software?
Tek-Tips does not allow information about how to 'hack' a document. If you do a few internet searches you might find some clues.
But in most cases you don't actually need to get around the password at all. Just copy the information from the password-protected document, paste it into another document, then edit the newly created document.
Hope that helps,

Nobody was going to 'hack' a document just because this document fully belongs to the 'hacker'. When the document is password protected on the forms level, it's impossible to copy the information from it. At the same time, it's possible to open it in WordPad, where the password is not working. That was the easiest solution. I am still wondering why I did not think about it before posting a message.
Thanks anyway,
Ankor
I didn't mean to accuse you of any wrongdoing - I've run into a similar problem when a former coworker left and forgot to tell anyone the password to a document she maintained. The problem with my suggestion - or what worked for you - is that formatting might be lost.
But the fact is that this is a public forum and giving out tips that could be used maliciously attracts some unscrupulous folks who aren't welcome here. I hope you understand.
