There appear to be two different model numbers quoted on this case, which is reflected in the subject heading.

How do I get the case apart in order to remove the hard drive from this laptop? I've undone and removed 12 screws from the bottom of the case (2 of which are hidden under the rubber feet), but there appears to be something solidly holding the two halves together roughly under the "A" key or thereabouts. There's a separate plastic section of the case on the lefthand side which surrounds the VGA, IEEE 1394, USB and DC-out connectors - this refuses to budge, can't prise it out, but I can't see what's holding it in place. I am most reluctant to use more force as I believe I'm near the limit of what this plastic case will stand without a breakage of some sort.

If I ever get to it, am I correct in assuming that the hard drive uses the usual standard minature 44-pin 2.5" IDE connector?

Only thing i can tell you is go to their website and see if you can find the file that holds the key, a manual, usually pdf style, exploded diagram, something like that.
Not trying to put you off, just that Sony may have what you need!
Best of luck, too!

Think this is probably the answer - been led to this site which gives some detail re dismantling. This machine is currently back with its owner, but should he return it to me, hopefully I'll be able to "crack" it open next time.

Couldn't find any info on the Sony site, but thanks for the thought anyway Garebo.

Some 2.5's come mounted directly in the computer. Some have the drive in a "tray", which mounts in the computer. Either way, the hard drive is probably standard.
