How to detect the existence of TSR programs from within the program ?

The first activity that our program does after running, is to run mem.exe to detect<br>
the presence of a TSR ( a keyboard remapper).<br>
Is there a better way to achieve the same<br>
objective ? Some .obj perhaps, or some <br>
library function ? <br>
