Hi!

I am having error every time I start VFP9 (XP-home).

Error : 'resource file is not valid, overwrite it with a new empty one? Yes-No '

As far as I know this regards the foxuser.dbf so I choose 'YES'. As a matter of facts this did not solve the problem.
Than I deleted the foxuser files (dbf + fpt). No positive result.

Than I reïnstalled VFP but again no result.

At long last I deïnstalled VFP, removed every key in the registry holding the word 'foxpro' and than installed VFP back again.

But error remains!

What to do?

Any suggestion?

TIA

Are you using the MS-supplied installer?

This error usually means something like the C++ runtime dll is a version off, but the standard installer should take care of that.

I'm doing a normal VFP install from original CD.

Bart,

I had exactly the same problem after I first upgraded to VFP 9.0.

If I remember right, I solved it by searching the hard drive for every instance of the two FOXUSER files, and deleting them. I see you also deleted the two files, but I'd guess there are still some other copies somewhere in the search path.

Thanks Mike,
Having projects on several places which all might have own foxuser tables that might be right.
Will check and report back.
Thanks so far!

Dave,
As this is all on my developers-machine less of write rights is not the issue but thanks for pointing that for that was unknown to me.

Mike,
I search in all drives and removed every foxuser file.
That helped. No longer that error but now there is still a small other thing to solve. In normal when I quit VFP with a project active than that project is opened automaticly when I start VFP. But now every time I've started VFP I must open a project manual.

Is that possible a setting somewhere?

Mike,
Sounds possibly sily but that option has been ticked but disabled also....

Make sure you have SET RESOURCE ON. It sounds like when you deleted all the FoxUser files, you also told VFP not to use one.

Hi Tamar,

Thanks for pointing me to this.
Also the location of the resource-file as per 'options' had to be ticked.
All now again as usual.

thread might get closed :)
