Hi Folks![poke]

I've searched around but no clue! Is there a way to copy specified group from one report into another?

I have a quite large specified group report and I'll be using the same structure for other reports. Any hint? [idea]

I thought about saving a skeleton with the basic structure but if is there a way to just copy the grouping it would be much better![thumbsup]

I would just modify your existing report and save as another name. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Thanks for your help. But that's exactly what I didn't want (the skeleton that I've talked about). I'm looking for something more like when your boss [flame] turns to you, after the report is done and: -"That looks nice but now I want to see this sorted the way you used in the other report, and while you at that try this other completelly different and new order..."

I think you get the idea. Actually let me refrase what I sad before: I'm looking for a easier way to deal with Specified Groups instead of using the Specified Group (not so) Wizard [bull].

Depending on what changes your boss wants, you can dynamically change groups by grouping on a formula. The formula will determine the group based on a parameter changes.

if {?Param} = "Country" then {table.countryfield}
else if {?Param} = "Last Name" then {table.lastnamefield}
else etc.

This may give you some more flexibility at runtime. Is that what you were looking for?

Thanks for your help. Its a way, but again I was looking for something like the formula editor that could be used with Specified Group. In resume Specified Group is not more than a bunch of IFs somewhere in the report structure. I was loking for a way to get to that structure and be able to copy / edit it.

May be I'm being just too picky and lazy [sleeping]... Luciano R. Humberto

Luciano,

What you described can be done in seconds. What is the problem? I get the feeling you have not told me everything. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

?!?!?!?!? "Can be done in seconds"? "Have not told you everything"? Now you've got it! I'm feeling really stupid! [thumbsdown]

There it goes again:

A while ago I did a report with 50 diferent Specified Groups, some with more than one condition for the group (nice report! [bigglasses]).

Yesterday I started a new report and my boss specified a simple grouping for that report (straight database field grouping). Simple report. Just had to suppress a session based on a formula. Finished in a couple hours. Then my boss came to me and, half an hour before quitting time, -"Can you change this grouping to the one you've used in that report so-and-so...".

That's it. Half an hour to go and I have to reenter 50 different specified groups and its formulas! [curse]

It has to be an easier way!

50 groups is a lot of groups! Are you sure you don't have a smaller number of groups but maybe 50 summarized values?

What formulas are you writing to get group totals? If you are selecting insert, field object, formula field you are doing way too much work. Are you manually writing these formulas?

Also, lets assume you are grouping by item within customer, and the boss wants to see it as by customer within item. This is a 5 second change, just drag one group outside of the other from the design window. Has this situation ever come up?

Please advise what you are trying to do and lets see what we can come up with. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
