How to copy a data provider?

This may be a really simple question, but I've been working on BO for a year and haven't figured it out.
How does one make a copy of a data provider? Like, if you only want to change one value of the criteria?

Versions 6 allow you to create a new dataprovider based on an existing one. If you add a dataprovider to the document you get the wizard that allows you to choose this option.

For older versions there is a third-party add-in that allows you to do the same (in a different manner) provided the dataprovider is a basic one.
