Hi im trying to make HP UX telnet recongnise chinese characters. I am using a Windows XP client and telneting to the server when I try and enter chinese it comes up as rubbish. I have got a Sun Solaris server and I can enter chinese into a telnet session fine if anyone has any ideas im stuck big time.

Compare the TERM environment variables on the two systems (HP/UX and Solaris). I don't believe telnet is the culprit here.

Where would I check the TERM environment variables?

Type: echo $TERM

You also can type: set to see all the variables set for your login.

fixed it used the following command

stty cs8 -istrip -parenb
