I used to be able to compile my database as an 'mde.' Now the mde choice is grayed out and not a choice. Anyone know 1) why and 2) how I can convert to a database that will compile as an 'mde.

Thanks

Have you changed computers recently or reinstalled Access? It's possible that you didn't do a full install.

Just a thought...

Hi,

Try these links, one may help you:

OR you can try this:
1. On the taskbar, click start and then click Run.
2. Type <Microsoft_Access_Path>\msaccess.exe /decompile and then click OK. Note <Microsoft_Access_Path> is the path of the folder where Access is installed.
3. Open the original .mdb file or the original .adp file that you want to save as the new MDE file or the new ADE file.
4. On the Tools menu, click Database Utilities and then click Make MDE File or click Make ADE File.
5. In the Save MDE As dialog box or the Save ADE As dialog box, locate the folder where you want to save the MDE file or the ADE file, type the file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

yes, jdegeorge: it is a new computer with XP factory installed and I hate to mess with it with all the XP locks and what not.

jbehrne,

I had to move to the actual folder and type msaccess.exe /decompile in the 'cmd' mode. It opened Access and when I open my file, 'mde' is still greyed put and thus cannot be chosen.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the tries.

Have you tried creating a new .mdb and pulling in all of your old .mdb's items (forms/reports/tables/queries/modules/etc.) and then create an .mde? Is it just with this db or all?

I tried this and still no 'mde' option. I moved the mdb to my old coomputer and tried it. It says that it cannot make an mde from this database.

Hi,

I think that you are running across the same problem that I had faced earlier - but forgot about. I am assuming that your db is in Access 2000/Access 97 format? If so you need convert the db to Access 2002 first. Go to tools - Database Utilities - Convert Database - To Access 2002 file format. Once you create the new db in Access 2002 open it and it will allow you to create an .mde
