How To clear hp xt963 bios

Im working with a HP xt963 and it powers up the hd light stays on the hd will engage the fan turns the keyboard lights up like normal but no signal to the display no cd or floppy activity, I suspect its the bios but how do i clear it?

This is pretty much basic HD info,I need bios access info, I want to basically reset the bios and see if the machine will start, what i mean by start is to get the bios to do its job and engage the display,KB and such, i have tried to take the CMOS battery out and let it sit for an hour, and that didnt do the trick im afraid a new mother board is the only solution but i want to try anything i can to bring this one back to life first.

I'm sorry, you're right! I went through the whole site and could not find a manual. All they offer is the equivalent of the "Owners Manual" that comes with the computer. No help. The only suggestion I can think of is, use the "contact us" site at HP and ask them. All you need to find is the location (on the motherboard) of the BIOS reset jumper. 10 second job - days to find out how! Where did you buy the computer? Maybe they can give you an answer.

I had one of these about 3 months ago, not sure its the same model number, but...... I wasn't sure, at the time, what key actually got me into the bios because I too wanted to see what was in there, so I just started pressing F Keys after the Del key didn't work. When I got to F10 it went into the Z drive that I didn't even know existed and from there I could do a recovery clean install or an install that allowed me to keep user files. I don't know if that will work on yours but I know much of the same thing was happening.

F11 gets you into BIOS, and thanks BTW, that F10 feature just saved me a LOT of work.

When you say taking the battery out didn't work, do you mean it didn't solve your problem or didn't clear CMOS!? I take it there's no jumper with 3-pin header on the motherboard that could conceivably be the CMOS Clear function. Sometimes the motherboard capacitors will retain sufficient voltage to keep the CMOS settings up for hours or even days. If you want to try taking the battery out again and putting something like a 100K resistor between the battery holder terminals, this may help to quickly decay the on-board charge and clear CMOS...

What is the BIOS Setup utility?back to top of page

Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a program that controls communication between all input and output devices on the PC (such as disk drives, display, keyboard, mouse, and printer). The BIOS information is stored in a chip on the motherboard.

The BIOS also has a setup utility for changing important PC settings. This configuration information is stored in the BIOS and includes the addresses of devices that are attached to the PC, the startup sequence of the computer, and the amount of system and extended memory. A battery on the motherboard keeps the settings from being lost when the system is turned off.

CAUTION: The information stored by the BIOS Setup utility is essential. It should not be changed without understanding what will happen. Caution should be used when making changes in the BIOS Setup utility. A mistake could prevent Windows from opening.

Sometimes it can be difficult to open the BIOS Setup screen because you have to press a specific key very quickly. If you fail to enter the Setup screen on your first try, repeat the following steps until you are successful:

1.

Turn off the PC and wait about five seconds.
2.

Turn on the PC.
3.

When the first screen appears, press the F1 key on the keyboard to enter the HP BIOS Setup menu. On certain Compaq Presario PCs (prior to 2002) press the F10 key at the logo screen to enter setup.
