The default boot mode in my newly installed
redhat linux 7.3 is GNOME , it comes to a
GUI login screen.

Is there a way i can change this to COMMAND LINE mode
as default.

Due to some of my screen resolution i am not able
to see anything in the screen, and someone in this
forum suggested me to change using xf86config
and edit some files.

But to do this i have get to the command line mode.

So how can i change the boot mode to COMMAND LINE.
(text mode).

Did you try <CTRL><ALT><F1>? This should give you a command line login screen.

IBM Certified Confused - MQSeries
IBM Certified Flabbergasted - AIX 5 pSeries System Administration
MS Certified Windblows Rebooter

The document talks about changing the
inittab file . But how do i get there first
as i cannot login to the system through
this GUI , the login screen is so weird that
i cant read anything and see the screen.

Basically i need to change the inittab file
but how can get to the file ??

CTRL +ALT + F1 doesnt work either.

There is a problem with your video setting. I think you should reinstall Linux and skip the X-windows installation. You can load later.

Thanks for the replies.
I had actually tried to reinstall the Linux, but during
installation i had asked for some custom installation
and installed some other packages and somehow
it us coming to a different bootup screen initially

which give 2 options
linux
linux swap

Ctrl+x for text mode.
I guess i had configured the boot loader to LILO
which is good.

And now i am able to get into the system
