How to change extension number on existing phone?

This is a really stupid question, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.
I have a phone that needs to have the extension changed on it, how do I do that?

I'm on a BCM 400.

in element manager just highlight the extension and enter type in the new one

If you change Ext number's on phones and another tech try's to work on the system and you haven't documented these Ext changes it will be very confusing to them. If the system dies and you need to reprogram it, it could be a nightmare to figure out what DN goes to what phone. Why not just move the crossconnects to the right DN.
