Hello,

I have installed an (english) w2k with a german keyboard. Now I'm using the same computer with a french keyboard. But the logon screen starts with german ('DE') layout (wrong). Of course I can switch with right alt+shift but for the other (basic) users of the computer it's very hard to understand.

Control Panel|Regional Options seems to apply only to the current user (that is I can change it for the admin but it does not change it for the logon screen). How can I change the setting for all user / the default user ? What is the registry entry ? David Burg,

Locate the registry key:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload
Modify the string "1" to the desired value

That should change the keyboard layout at logon and also the keyboard layout for any new users that log on to that machine.

You can get the correct value by setting the keyboard layout in the control panel first and then browsing to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload

Where the value of string "1" corresponds to the keyboard layout you're using at that time.

Hope this makes sense :) In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

Thanks. I have not the computer just here but I will try this next week-end. :)

Btw, is \Keyboard Layout\Toggle\Hotkey the value for Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock ? David Burg,

If memory serves me, \Keyboard Layout\Toggle\Hotkey holds the value for the hotkey to toggle between alternative keyboard layouts. I think a value of 1 assigns that function to left Alt + left Shift.

My turn to ask you a question. I've noticed that you work for Ahead Software AG. Do you know how I can give a Windows 2000 Professional user permissions to burn a CD with Nero Burning Rom 5.0 or later? It works fine as an administrator, but not as a user. Or can you direct me to the Ahead help desk? Thanks!

Good question. It was long not possible but it have been fixed beginning of this year.

You need Nero 5.5 (I have not tested with 5.0), and up-to-date wnaspi32.dll in Nero folder, and "NeroSVC". I think officially you need to contact the support and then they should send you the NeroSVC files.

[end of official text]

But you can also find it directly on my private page about Nero

Probably many people here don't speak french, so the link you need is :

! This zip file is not supported by Ahead Software AG ! It might not be as up-to-date as what you will get from Ahead techsupport. Complain to me directly and not to Ahead if you have a problem with it.

(and :
)

You may ask why is this file (NeroSVC.zip) not directly available on ahead web site. I do not know, and I don't understand neither. Really. And no, I can't fix this. I'm not the webmaster.
