How to boot into another version of OSX to install Fantom Drive

Just got a new 250GB Fantom External hard drive. Hooked it up via Firewire and it's a no go. I go to fantomdrives.com for help and there's a topic about compatibility with Panther, at this link,
It mentions that I need to download the update but it can't be done in 10.3.6. How do I boot up in an earlier version to install this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
