Hi,

These past 2 months weve been getting a lot of harrassing phone calls on our DID's. We requested our carrier if they can block incoming calls from certain numbers but they said that is not something they can do. Is there a way in the PBX to block the incoming calls to our PRI's from certain numbers ? We have a CS1000E 4.5 and CS 1000E 5.0.

Thanks.

if u have a call accounting program and know who's making the harrasing phonecalls, u can add entries in IDC (LD 49) that will send those specific callers to a dummy mailbox or to a specific extension.

but u have to know the telephone numbers that r calling....

blocking via CLID is a waste of time at best. Like they can't come in as unknown caller for 75 cents or free. Who doesn't have access to, at hand, 2-3 devices. Not to mention countless payphones. xfer to 911 or turn in to HR and call it a day.

Some of the callers do show the numbers. Can you please guide me on how I can use LD 49 to block the numbers.

Thanks

you can only screen clid via symposium and that would take a month to program.. all you did's would idc to a cdn, symposium would then screen and route via clid..

best trick i've found, transfer the caller to 9,911.. all calls stop pretty fast..

post transfer the caller can not hang up on 911 dispatch, they have called party hold... if the caller hangs up, as long as 911 wants she can hold the line... next time you pick up the phone, your still on the call.. waiting for a knock on the door

Do as John and BigIndian suggest. Today with the advent of cell (throw away) phones like Trac Phone, and websites like spoofphone, chances are the clid coming in is either spoofed or will be disconnected shortly.
Who is your Carrier? I know that Bell now ATT will assist with harrassing calls, but the first step before they intervene is making a police report. Once the report has been made, you can give that to att, and they'll look into it.
Probably all carriers hear complaints about harrassing phone calls, and require you to make a police report in essence to prove how serious this is to you, and that they should dedicate resources to look into the harrassing calls.
LD49 will do nothing for you regarding this issue. Having Symposium is a start, then you can route calls based on clid in a script.

As pbnx says, you have to get the police involved before the carrier will do much of anything.

Considering the industry I work in, I've only had one case that I had to involve the police with (an ex-... harassing an employee, not a nasty customer), and he's now sitting in prison. Unfortunately, he was (at that time) a state highway patrolman, so he had to know the ins and outs of the system.

Our carrier is Global Crossings and they said they cannot do anything about it. Maybe if we do what you are suggesting, to get the police involve.

Thanks for all your responses.

How does your 911 call center feel about that? I think they may have more important things to deal with.
