Good afternoon people,
Haven't dealt with NT4 for sometime now and can't remember how to backup the SAM database. I'm sure this will be a piece of cake for people of your caliber !

All the best and thanks in advance....

Jars.

Use RDisk on the domain controller. However, the SAM may not fit on the floppy, you may have to same the data locally on the hard drive and then copy it.

The easiest way to back up the SAM and get yourself out of a sticky situation is to use a BDC - that is, if the server you're talking about is not a standalone machine. Restoring the SAM and a server without one can be a nightmare - especially if you're restoring to a server with a different hardware configuration.

If your budget's tight and you can't justify a full time BDC, your best bet is to get an old PC/Laptop/Server, install it as a BDC on your domain and keep it safe, offsite somewhere!

If it's a standalone server, ensure you run RDISK /S every so often (after every change you make to the server) to ensure you have the latest info in the %systemroot%/repair folder. Keep this folder safe!
