I only know basic DNS functions and am still learning all the advanced stuff. I need to be able to assign a DNS name to a user that connects to our network via VPN. The IP address of their computer changes periodically because of the ISP, so how do I do this? Something with Active Directory and integrated DNS? If there is a name for this function I could research it myself more easily, if only someone would tell me what it was called. Any ideas?

If the users is VPN directly to a Win2k AD Server then they should be registered automatically (check user NIC settings for Check box "Automatically register this connection in DNS". If the user is connecting to a VPN appliance, does this device support DNS registration?

I'll ask the user to check that setting like you said. Thanks for the tip! The VPN is directly to a W2K Server, so maybe this will solve our problem.

If not, I found that I can reserve an IP address in DHCP for specific MAC addresses. Just thought I'd mention that here for future reference.
