hi..

i wonder how some people make pc requirements for their programs.

i have an application written in foxpro to be installed to different regions/provinces but i don't know how to tell my users what minimum pc requirements they should use. i only know the byte size of my program and tables.

how do i tell them how much memory, hard disk size, processor or OS to use?

help pls..

If you use Foxpro for Dos, that uses no more than 16 mb of memory.
These Foxpro versions date from 1994 so if your clients have modern pc's the fox will run ok on them.
Depending on the size of the databases it's better to have a fast harddisk, but once again, in 1994 Foxpro was very fast on the hardware used then.

Rob.

Be sure to make a clear difference between minimum requirements and recommendataions.

I can tell you already, that even with new computers, the size and complexity of a program can make or break a network. One of our applications was designed to run on a Novell 3x network(yes, it's that old) with DOS clients. That application runs very fast and smoothly in that enviornment. However, run on a Windows 2000 network with a heavily mixed client base, then performance drops significantly. A newer FPW application runs like lightening in a pure 2000 enviornment, but screaches to a halt in a Novell setting. On top of all that, we're now seeing some significant performance issues with Windows XP.

Minimum requirements are easy, but determining what should be the recommended setup will take some testing and experimentation on your part.

rob444,

what if i used foxpro 2.6 for windows?

anyway, i get eslersa's idea.

thanks!
