I have just set up my AIX [4.3.3] as primary DNS Server Basic things are working fine.

I am not able contact my mailserver [which MS Exchange].
Want to know how to add the proper MX record in named.data
file.

Before the DNS implementation on this AIX box, the NT Server
was the primary DNS, which had an MX record. I did a
similar entry [by manually editing named.data]

emailserver 9999999 IN MX 172.30.93.21

After editing named.data I stopped and started the named and sendmail subsystems. But No luck.

What am I missing??

The following might help?

9999999 IN MX 10 mailhost

This line is a mail exchanger (MX) record. This line is not necessary and will
not be created by the script. It is typically used when the name server is
outside a firewall, or is queried by those outside your domain. When someone
sends mail to user@test.com, this line indicates the mail is to be sent
to mailhost for further processing. The file may have more than one MX record,
and each may have different preferences (the higher the number, the lower the
preference) and different machines to which they point.

Also check the /etc/sendmail.cfg file for any notations on the MX records

You probably already have the doc....if you do....sorry
