I bet this is basic networking 101 stuff for most of you but I don't get it. We have a netgear NE116 hub and about 10 computers networked using static ips. The cable guy comes to install dsl DSL by adding a Cayman 3546 gateway and assigns a static IP gateway and identifies 5 usable IPs in the same range as the static ip gateway (I thought dsl required a dynamic IP) - what are the extra 5 IP addresses for? Are we supposed to change the static IPs on our network to fall within the available addresses (obviously with 10 computers and 5 addresses that is a problem)? He configured the DSL router Wan side as static using the gateway IP address and the LAN side to use the built in DHCP server (static). When the cable guy couldn't get the network to access the internet he gave up and left it for me. What do I need to configure on each of the networked computers so that they will see the router and be able to connect to the web? Is there a DHCP setting I need to make? If I change the network setting on a computer to dynamic, that computer can access the internet but not the network. About half of the computers are Win98 and half are WinXPP. Thanks in advance.
